Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series To Gain powerful hybrid powertrain

Toyota is ushering in a new chapter for its iconic LandCruiser, revealing the nameplate’s first-ever performance-oriented hybrid variant. Set to launch in Australia in the first half of 2026, the new LandCruiser pairs Toyota’s renowned hybrid expertise with the model’s legendary reputation for quality, durability, and reliability (QDR).

This landmark release represents a significant step forward in Toyota Australia’s multi-pathway strategy toward electrification—offering customers diverse powertrain options tailored to suit their lifestyles and driving needs.

Building on a hybrid legacy that began with the Prius in 2001, the new LandCruiser performance hybrid introduces a parallel one-motor system that delivers greater power and impressive towing capacity compared to the existing diesel lineup.

Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations, said the new 300 Series variant brings a level of performance never before seen in the LandCruiser range.

“Australians have relied on the LandCruiser for decades to conquer the most remote parts of the country. Its capability and reliability are part of the national driving story,” Mr Hanley said.

“We’ve always committed to offering the right powertrains for our customers—and the arrival of the first performance hybrid LandCruiser will raise the bar for what our flagship four-wheel drive can do.”

Powering the new model is a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine mated to a high-torque electric motor in a parallel hybrid setup. The result: increased output, enhanced smoothness, and exceptional drivability—on both sealed roads and rugged off-road tracks.

Tested in extreme conditions across the Middle East’s deserts and mountainous terrain, the hybrid system has been engineered to meet the LandCruiser’s legendary toughness. The electric motor also allows for refined throttle response and improved control across challenging landscapes.

More details about the performance hybrid LandCruiser will be announced closer to its local launch in 2026.
