Nissan QASHQAI Goes All-In on e-POWER

Nissan Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the MY26 QASHQAI, arriving in early 2026 with a clear message: this popular small SUV is now e-POWER only.

For the first time, the entire QASHQAI range will be powered exclusively by Nissan’s latest e-POWER electrified system, delivering EV-like driving refinement without the need to plug in — and notably, featuring key powertrain components manufactured right here in Australia.

Originally launched locally in 2007 as the Dualis, the QASHQAI has long been a cornerstone of the small SUV segment. For 2026, it arrives in its most efficient, refined and technologically advanced form yet, as Nissan doubles down on its “hybrid reinvented” strategy.

Key MY26 QASHQAI Highlights

  • All-electrified e-POWER lineup

  • Improved fuel economy: 4.1L/100km combined (down from 4.8L/100km)

  • Reduced CO₂ emissions: 92g/km (17.8% improvement)

  • 5.6dB quieter cabin, delivering near-EV refinement

  • +10kW Sport Mode boost for sharper response

  • New 5-in-1 e-POWER powertrain, with Australian-made aluminium components

  • New ST-L e-POWER entry grade from $45,640

  • Enhanced Digital Around View Monitor with 3D views

  • NVES-focused emissions improvements

e-POWER: Hybrid, Re-Engineered

Unlike conventional hybrids, Nissan’s e-POWER system drives the wheels exclusively via an electric motor. A compact 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine acts solely as a generator, producing electricity on demand.

The result is instant throttle response, smooth power delivery and quiet operation — without the range anxiety or charging infrastructure considerations of a full EV.

The e-POWER advantage:

  • 100% electric motor drive

  • No plug-in required

  • Refuel anywhere

  • Instant acceleration with no gear changes

  • Regenerative braking to recover energy

New-Generation e-POWER: More Efficient, More Refined

The MY26 QASHQAI introduces Nissan’s latest 5-in-1 modular e-POWER system, integrating the electric motor, generator, inverter, increaser and reducer into a single compact unit. This reduces weight, complexity and energy losses — while improving overall efficiency and refinement.

It’s paired with a redesigned 1.5-litre turbocharged engine featuring Nissan’s proprietary STARC combustion technology, achieving an impressive 42% thermal efficiency — a key contributor to the QASHQAI’s improved economy, lower emissions and enhanced performance.

Proven Long-Distance Capability

Nissan recently demonstrated the system’s real-world efficiency when UK engineers completed the Land’s End to John O’Groats drive — more than 1,300km — on a single tank of fuel.

Closer to home, that translates to a Melbourne-to-Coffs Harbour run without refuelling — a strong reminder that efficiency doesn’t come at the expense of usability.

Australian Engineering, Global Impact

A standout element of the MY26 QASHQAI is its Australian contribution. The new 5-in-1 e-POWER system features high-pressure cast aluminium components engineered and manufactured at Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) in Dandenong South, Victoria.

NCAP serves as the global sole supplier for these components, meaning every MY26 QASHQAI e-POWER sold worldwide carries Australian-made technology — complete with the iconic kangaroo symbol.

Nissan Oceania Managing Director Andrew Humberstone said the move highlights Australia’s ongoing role in Nissan’s global engineering network.

“QASHQAI delivers the real-world efficiency of e-POWER in a right-sized package that’s been optimised across multiple fronts,” he said.
“With locally produced componentry at its core, it’s more Australian than ever.”
