BMW Australia Announces M340i xDrive 50 Jahre

Half a century. Seven generations. One icon.

To celebrate 50 years of the legendary BMW 3 Series, BMW Australia has announced a limited-run special edition — the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition — created exclusively for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Limited to just 50 units, this collector-grade sedan blends high-performance DNA with bespoke finishes, paying tribute to the most successful model line in BMW history.

Built for Enthusiasts. Tuned for Legacy.

Under the bonnet sits the 285kW M TwinPower Turbo straight-six, paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW’s rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive system. It’s the same powertrain that’s earned the M340i praise as the sweet spot between everyday usability and M-car thrills.

What sets the 50 Jahre Edition apart is the attention to detail:

  • BMW Individual Anthracite Metallic paint – a nod to the brand’s classic colour heritage

  • Jet Black 19-inch M light alloy wheels

  • M Sport Package Pro, featuring:

    • Red high-gloss M Sport brakes

    • M Shadow Line lights

    • M seat belts

    • Black Sapphire rear spoiler

  • Carbon fibre interior trim

  • A bespoke ‘50 Jahre Edition’ build plate mounted on the centre console

It’s not just a spec sheet — it’s a subtle homage to the model that defined the sport sedan category.

A Legacy That Runs Deep

The 3 Series has played a pivotal role in shaping BMW’s brand identity, especially in Australia. It remains the country’s best-selling BMW of all time, with over 191,000 examples registered since VFACTS records began — despite the rising dominance of SUVs like the X3 and X5.

The current G20 generation earned Carsales Car of the Year in 2019 and continues to be a favourite for those who value driving dynamics as much as daily comfort.

Availability & Pricing

Only 50 examples of the BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition will be available in Australia, priced from $127,600 (Plus On-Road Costs).

Customer deliveries are set to begin in Q4 2025.
